Hello, fellow AI enthusiasts and curious minds! Welcome to our latest blog post here on nonBot where we dive into the exciting world of generative AI and, more specifically, the art of creating custom GPT models with OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4. If you’ve already watched the video above, you’re halfway into becoming a GPT wizard. If not, don’t worry – the video is only 15 minutes and is your gateway to this fantastic journey.

The Dawn of Custom GPTs

It all started a few weeks ago when OpenAI released the capability to create custom GPT models. For those of us who’ve been tinkering with AI and its limitless possibilities, this was a game-changer. Imagine taking the already powerful ChatGPT and infusing it with your unique flavor, tailored for specific tasks or industries. That’s exactly what we’re talking about here!

Step-by-Step: Crafting Your AI

Let’s break down the process. The journey begins at OpenAI’s interface, a familiar playground for many of us, but now with some new toys to play with. The ‘Explore’ tab in the top left corner is where the magic starts. This is your control panel to build a GPT model that suits with your individual or business needs.

Naming and Initial Settings

The first step is akin to naming a newborn. You get to name your custom GPT model. It’s fun, but choose wisely! This name will be its identity as it ventures into the digital world. In our example, we used ChatGPT to come up with names, “Babel Beacon” – simple, but it’s only the beginning.

Configuration – Through Chat, or Manual

In the configuration tab, you have direct control over the core settings. This is where you set the parameters and start to guide your AI. But here’s a tip: if manual configuration seems daunting, ChatGPT, on the left-hand side of the interface, can assist you. That’s right; use AI to build AI – we’re living in the future!

Fine-Tuning and Interacting

Fine-tuning is where you teach your GPT model the intricacies of the task at hand. For us, it involved detailing elements like source material, target language, and context preferences. It’s akin to training an apprentice, guiding them to understand not just the ‘what’ but the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of their tasks.

Once your model starts taking shape, it’s time to interact with it. This is crucial, as it helps identify any tweaks needed. Remember, it’s like training a digital brain – the more you interact, the smarter it becomes.

Saving and Sharing Your Masterpiece

Once your model is up and running, you can save and share it. We chose to make our model public, but you have the flexibility to keep it private or share it with select individuals. This step is about unleashing your creation into the world, or perhaps, keeping it as your secret digital weapon.

The Challenge of AI Amnesia

One of the hurdles we encountered was AI amnesia. Yes, even digital brains can be forgetful. They tend to lose track of earlier parts of the conversation. This calls for a strategic approach to building your model, ensuring that it retains its learning throughout the process.

Our Project: More Than Just a Demo

In our video, we chose to create a multilingual translation tool. It’s not just a demonstration but a practical application of how custom GPTs can be tailored. This tool isn’t just about translating words; it’s about understanding context, audience, and nuances across languages – a powerful asset for anyone to use.

The Beauty of Custom GPTs

The real beauty of these custom models lies in their ability to be fine-tuned by subject matter experts. You don’t just create a generic tool; you infuse it with expertise and nuanced understanding, making it a valuable asset for specific tasks or industries.

Your Turn to Shine

Now, it’s your turn. With the knowledge from our video and this post, you’re equipped to embark on your own AI adventure. Create, experiment, and most importantly, have fun with it. The world of AI is at your fingertips, and we can’t wait to see
